Prepare your CHP plant for the stricter NOx requirements
From 1 January 2029, stricter NOx emission limits will apply to certain existing CHP plants under Germany’s 44th Federal Immission Control Ordinance (44. BImSchV).
Whether your plant is affected and whether a technical retrofit is required depends on the specific plant configuration and current emission values.

Is your CHP plant affected?
Relevant factors include, for example:
- fuel used, such as natural gas or biogas
- thermal input and approval status
- annual operating hours
- classification as an existing plant
- current NOx emission values
- existing exhaust gas treatment
- overall plant configuration
More than just installing a catalyst
An SCR retrofit must be integrated into the existing CHP system. Depending on the plant, this may involve exhaust gas routing, back pressure, available space, urea supply, control and measurement technology as well as planned maintenance and shutdown periods.
